Sidney was captured at the surrender of Singapore on 13th February 1942 and put to work on the Burma-Thailand railway. Buried initially in Sonkrai Cemetery, this cemetery was concentrated into Thanbyuzayat in December 1945. By 1948 it even proved impossible to trace Sonkai, such is the nature of the terrain.
He is on several prisoner list but unfortunately his Japanese PoW card has not been found.
